A nine-page suicide note written by Bengaluru-based businessman CJ Roy, who died during an Income Tax Department search at his premises, has been recovered and is now central to the ongoing investigation, police sources said.
The handwritten note, accessed by investigators on Sunday, reportedly begins with Roy apologising to his family and seeking forgiveness as he described taking his “final step”. While reflecting emotional distress, the note is said to be detailed and methodical, containing extensive personal, financial and business-related information.
Sources said the document outlines specific financial disclosures, including details of money owed to Roy, and names individuals to manage his business affairs after his death. He also appealed for long-serving employees of the Confident Group, which he founded and chaired, to be retained, describing them as trusted colleagues.

The note is currently being examined by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe the circumstances surrounding Roy’s death. Investigators believe the information contained in it could provide crucial leads and help establish a clearer timeline of events.
Police have begun recording statements of Roy’s wife and children as part of the probe. Sources said Roy had previously discussed several financial matters with his wife, including funds extended to others, and had also spoken about these issues in a recent public interview. SIT officials are expected to question her in greater detail after funeral rites are completed.
Roy died on Friday afternoon while Income Tax Department searches were underway at his premises. The searches, led by a Kerala-based IT team, had been ongoing for three days. On the day of the incident, Roy was questioned for nearly an hour and was asked to produce certain financial documents. He later sought permission to go to his private chamber to retrieve the papers.
