Security has been significantly tightened at the District Jail in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir following a violent clash between two groups of inmates on Saturday, officials confirmed on Sunday. The incident began with a heated argument between two prisoners—one from the Kashmir Valley and the other a local resident of Rajouri—which quickly escalated into a physical scuffle.
The verbal altercation rapidly drew in other inmates, leading to a broader confrontation between the two groups inside the prison compound.
Officials said that security guards stationed within the jail premises were pelted with stones by the warring inmates, prompting immediate intervention by jail authorities to restore order.
Additional security personnel were rushed to the scene, and measures were taken to bring the situation under control.
As a precautionary step, security has been strengthened both inside the jail and in the surrounding area to prevent any further incidents.
Sources told reporters that at least four security personnel sustained injuries while attempting to separate the fighting inmates.
The injured have been identified as staff member Taj Din and three constables—Pawan Khajuria, Prem Singh, and Maqsood Ahmad.
The situation is now fully under control, officials stated, with no further disturbances reported.
