Clashes in MP after Champions Trophy victory rally attacked

Clashes erupted in Mhow town of Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district, late on Sunday after a rally celebrating India’s ICC Champions Trophy final triumph was reportedly attacked with stones, leading to violence and arson.

Mhow, situated around 25 kilometres from Indore city, witnessed heightened tensions following the incident.

As per reports, a group of young cricket enthusiasts had organised a victory rally, which took a violent turn upon reaching the Jama Masjid area when stones were allegedly hurled at the participants, triggering chaos and panic.

 

 

Indore Collector Ashish Singh, when contacted, confirmed that the situation had been brought under control. “How it happened will be ascertained later. As of now, the situation is under control,” he stated.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Nimish Agarwal elaborated on the sequence of events, saying, “A rally was being taken out in Mhow to celebrate India’s Champions Trophy victory.

During this, some people had an altercation that escalated into the two parties pelting each other with stones.”


The violence led to instances of arson, and preliminary reports suggest that several motorcycles were set ablaze.

The clashes caused panic in several parts of the town, with individuals abandoning their vehicles in a bid to flee the unrest, local sources said.

Superintendent of Police (Indore Rural) Hitika Wasal rushed to Mhow to assess the situation and implement measures to restore normalcy. Authorities swiftly deployed police personnel in the affected areas to prevent further escalation.

DIG Agarwal further stated, “A police force has been stationed there. There is no information of any casualties.”

As law enforcement officers remained on high alert, security measures were intensified to ensure peace and stability in the town.

The local administration assured residents that efforts were underway to investigate the cause of the clashes and identify those responsible.
