Police have arrested the main accused in the stabbing death of a Class XI student of a north Kolkata school at Dakshineswar Metro Station. The accused, also a Class XI student of the same school, was caught on Saturday afternoon at Howrah station while attempting to flee with his mother and sister, who were also detained for interrogation.
According to police sources, the accused had planned to escape to Begusarai in Bihar by train. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted him at Howrah station before he could leave the city.
Police said the incident occurred on Friday around 2:30 pm, when a group of students arrived at Dakshineswar by metro. An argument broke out between them, escalating into a violent clash. During the fight, the accused allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed his classmate in the stomach. The victim collapsed on the spot. His companions rushed him downstairs and took him to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
“Amid the chaos, the accused managed to slip away. We quickly reached the scene, cordoned off the area and reviewed CCTV footage from the metro station. Three students present at the time were detained for questioning, which eventually led investigators to the prime accused,” said a police officer.
Preliminary investigations suggest the murder may have been linked to a dispute over a love relationship. The deceased was a student of the Arts department of Bagbazar Boys’ High School, while the accused is from the Commerce department of the same institution.
