Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district was hit by a cloudburst in the Sainj Valley, triggering flash floods in the Jiwa Nala on Wednesday. The local administration has sounded an alert for nearby areas and issued a warning over the rising water levels in the Parvati River, which is flowing above normal.
While no casualties have been reported so far, officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and stay away from riverbanks and mountain streams. Disaster management teams and the local authorities are on alert and closely monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, the weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall over the next 24 hours, with the possibility of heavier downpours in higher altitude regions.
Earlier on Tuesday, the local Met office had predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall across Himachal Pradesh's low and mid-hill regions, with the southwest monsoon now active throughout the state. An orange alert was issued for Wednesday, warning of intense rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in seven districts — Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur.
For Thursday, a yellow warning has been sounded for nine out of the state’s 12 districts, excluding Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti, indicating the likelihood of heavy showers at isolated spots.
