A cloudburst hit Dhanpal Kanda village in the Koot panchayat of Rampur, Shimla, triggering a flashflood that caused major damage.
Local residents said that standing crops and apple saplings were completely destroyed. The floodwaters also washed away one main bridge and three smaller ones, cutting off Koot village from nearby areas. The main road to the panchayat office was damaged by landslides. However, the main bridge inside Koot is still intact, which brought a small relief.
In a separate incident, two electricity poles were swept away in Khiuncha village due to a landslide caused by the heavy rain. This has led to a complete power outage in the area.
Ratna Dogra, the panchayat head of Koot, confirmed the incident around midnight on July 29, and said, “Thankfully, there has been no loss of life, but the damage to infrastructure and property is huge.”
Harsh Amrender Singh, the SDM of Rampur, said that a revenue team will visit the affected area on Thursday to assess the damage. He also assured that relief and repair work will begin without delay.
