Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed concern over the disappearance of a Dehradun resident working in the merchant navy and assured the family of full support and assistance.
The 22-year-old deck cadet, Karandeep Singh Rana, who lives in Patel Nagar, Dehradun, had gone missing from a ship near Sri Lanka on September 20. The vessel was traveling from Iraq to China when he went missing.
In a phone call with Rana’s father on Wednesday, Dhami assured him that the state government is committed to ensuring the safety and quick return of his son.
Dhami said the state government is in regular contact with the Centre and the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate the search.
He also promised to personally speak with officials at the Ministry of External Affairs to make sure prompt action is taken. Dhami added that the state, Centre, and all agencies concerned are working together to locate Karandeep and bring him back safely.
Dhami appealed to the family to remain patient. He reassured them that the government understands their worry and is making serious efforts to resolve the situation.
The family had earlier requested urgent action from both the chief minister and the Ministry of External Affairs to locate Karandeep.
