Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday announced a major crackdown under Operation Prahaar to ensure Devbhoomi remains safe, clean and crime-free.

Referring to recent incidents, Dhami said some developments in the state were unfortunate and posed serious challenges. He said the government is determined to prevent them and is putting a strong system in place to address the issues.

Explaining the initiative, he said the Police Department has launched ‘Operation Prahaar’ under which criminals, gangsters, and those involved in organised and professional crimes are being identified and apprehended through focused action.

Speaking about student safety, Dhami said Dehradun hosts thousands of students from across India and abroad who come for education. He said hostels across the city are being thoroughly inspected, and operators have been asked to cooperate fully with authorities.

Highlighting the government’s zero-tolerance approach, he said past records of individuals are being verified, investigation drives have been intensified, and night patrolling is being regularised to strengthen security arrangements.

He stressed that no criminal would be spared under any circumstances and reiterated that the administration is working with a strict zero-tolerance policy against crime.

The announcement follows the recent launch of Operation Prahaar, a statewide initiative aimed at cracking down on organised crime, gang activity, and anti-social elements across Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Dhami also paid a tribute to retired Brigadier Mukesh Joshi after his tragic death in Dehradun.

Retired Brigadier Mukesh Joshi was killed in a firing incident between two groups in Johri village, Dehradun, on March 30, while on a morning walk. Dhami met the bereaved family and prayed for strength for them to cope with the loss.

The Chief Minister assured strict action against those responsible for the incident. He said public safety remains the government’s top priority and officials have been directed to implement Operation Prahaar across the state to take firm action against anti-social elements attempting to disturb law and order.

The incident led to a high-level meeting at the Police Headquarters headed by DGP Deepam Seth on Tuesday. Senior officers, including IG Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop, IG STF Nilesh Anand Bharne, SSP Dehradun Pramendra Dobhal, SSP STF Ajay Singh, and other officials attended the meeting.

Officials were instructed to maintain strong field deployment, increase police visibility in sensitive areas, and strengthen checking at barriers, particularly during early morning hours. The IG STF and SSP STF were also directed to launch special operations against active criminal elements in Dehradun and ensure strict action.
