SDRF steps up rescue after 10 missing in Chamoli cloudburst
Meanwhile, rescue teams are working round the clock in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district after a cloudburst left at least 10 people missing and damaged several houses.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF and the local police and district officials, launched intensive search operations on Thursday. So far, two women and a child have been pulled out alive with injuries and taken to hospital.
The cloudburst hit Kuntri Laga Fali, Kuntri Laga Sarpani, and Dhurma wards of Nandanagar Nagar Panchayat on Wednesday night. Heavy rain and blocked roads made it tough for the rescue team to reach the spot. An SDRF team, led by Sub-Inspector Jagmohan, trekked nearly 8 km on foot to get there.
District police, the Disaster Response Force, and local authorities are also at the site, helping with relief. The search for the missing continues on a war footing.
Officials said there has been major destruction in the affected villages, but so far no deaths have been confirmed. Rescue work is still underway despite difficult weather and terrain.
