Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday met the parents of Ankita Bhandari, who worked as a receptionist at a resort in Pauri district and was allegedly murdered on September 18, 2022. Dhami assured them of the state government’s full support and commitment to ensuring justice in the case.

As per the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Dhami met Ankita Bhandari’s father Virendra Singh Bhandari and mother Soni Devi at his official residence in Dehradun on Thursday. During the meeting, the grieving parents shared their concerns related to the case with the Chief Minister.

The CMO release stated that the Chief Minister said ensuring justice in the case is the government’s highest priority. He also assured the family of all possible support and said their demands would be considered with positive action.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and advocate Gaurav Bhatia on Wednesday welcomed the Delhi High Court’s direction to Congress and AAP to remove social media posts linking BJP leader Dushyant Gautam to the Ankita Bhandari murder case. He described the court’s order as a victory for the rule of law and a response to what he called “dirty politics.”

Talking to mediapersons, Bhatia said "The High Court in the matter of Dushyant Gautam has given directions to various defendants to immediately remove the malicious defamatory posts that the official social media handles of the Congress Party, the AAP, which Urmila has been posting, which are without any facts or basis. They are posted to indulge in cheap petty politics."

Bhatia said the court’s order was a strong reply to the political tactics of Congress and AAP. He added that it marked a victory for the law and that all defamatory content would be removed from social media within 24 hours.

The controversy relates to the murder of Ankita Bhandari, a 19-year-old resort receptionist in Uttarakhand. Her body was recovered from a canal in September 2022.

The case involved allegations that Ankita was pressured to provide sexual favours to guests at a resort run by Pulkit Arya, the son of a former BJP leader. A trial court later convicted Arya and two others and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
