Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday visited the disaster-hit Nandanagar area of Chamoli district to review relief and rescue work and meet the affected families.
Seven people lost their lives in the Chamoli cloudburst, while 11 others were injured and are receiving treatment in local hospitals.
During his visit to Nandanagar, the Chief Minister met with the victims, listened to their concerns, and assured them that the government stands firmly with them in this difficult time. He reached the area through the Kurud Helipad to conduct an on-site inspection.
A day earlier, State Disaster and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman briefed about the scale of the damage. He said 45 buildings and 15 cow shelters were affected. In addition, 28 animals were reported missing and four were confirmed dead. He also informed that two people are still missing, and search operations are underway.
The District Magistrate, SP, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, local police, and medical teams are working on the ground to locate the missing and provide immediate support.
"Two individuals are still missing, and currently, the District Magistrate, SP, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, local police, and medical teams are on-site conducting search operations. Efforts are being made to provide shelter and essential supplies to the affected, with some items already delivered by helicopter. Further actions will be taken based on the demands and applications received," he said.
As per the Chamoli Police, rescue operations in Nandanagar entered their second day on Friday. Teams from NDRF, SDRF, and local police are continuing with their efforts to locate and rescue those believed to be trapped under the debris in Kuntari and Dhurma villages.
The cloudburst struck Nandanagar Ghat on Wednesday night, causing massive destruction. Several houses were buried under debris in the Kuntri Lagafali ward after the heavy rainfall triggered landslides and flash flooding.
