Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has welcomed the new next-generation GST reforms, which came into effect on Monday. He called them a historic milestone that will bring prosperity, growth, and opportunities for all citizens under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

In a post on X, CM Dhami wrote, “Respected Prime Minister Ji, undoubtedly, the Next Generation GST Reforms implemented under your able leadership mark a historic step that will bring prosperity, growth, and opportunities into the lives of the people of our nation.”

He added, “On the auspicious occasion of Navratri, this reform holds even greater significance. This initiative will ensure inclusive development for our middle class and small business owners, and will enhance the quality of life for all citizens.”

Earlier on Monday, the Chief Minister attended the GST Bachat Utsav (GST Savings Festival) in Premnagar, Dehradun. The aim of the event was to spread awareness about reduced GST rates and inform people about the direct benefits.

CM Dhami visited local markets, interacted with traders, and sought their feedback on the new GST slabs. He asked them to educate the public about the lower rates. He also encouraged traders to prioritise indigenous products. He said buying local would strengthen both citizens and the national economy.

Appealing to the public, he said, “Promoting local goods will boost cottage industries and encourage small businesses, thereby strengthening both the state and the nation's economy.”

He added that initiatives like the GST Savings Festival allow citizens to engage directly and experience the benefits of government policies.

Earlier this month, the GST Council reduced the 12 per cent and 28 per cent GST slabs, a decision announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on September 3. There is also a 40 per cent slab for luxury and sin goods, including tobacco, pan masala, cigarettes, bidis, aerated sugary drinks, luxury vehicles, high-end motorcycles above 350cc, yachts, and helicopters.
