Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took stock of the Chamoli train accident in which two locomotive trains collided at the under-construction site of the THDC Vishnugad–Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project in Pipalkoti on Tuesday night.
In a post on X, Dhami said he has directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for all injured workers. He added that those who need advanced care should be referred to higher medical centres.
CM Dhami said "I am in constant contact with the District Magistrate of Chamoli regarding the accident that occurred at the TBM site of the under-construction THDC Vishnugad - Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project in Pipalkoti, Chamoli district. Instructions have been given to provide better medical facilities to all the injured and to refer them to higher medical centers as needed. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of all the injured workers.”
As per the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s Office, Chamoli District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar and Superintendent of Police Surjeet Singh Panwar rushed to the District Hospital in Gopeshwar after the incident. They met the injured workers, checked on their condition, and directed doctors to ensure proper and advanced treatment.
Sharing details, District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar said that 70 injured workers were brought to the District Hospital in Gopeshwar. Of these, 66 were discharged after receiving first aid, while four were admitted for further treatment.
He said 18 injured workers were taken to Vivekananda Hospital in Pipalkoti, where they were given first aid and later sent home. Another 21 workers did not suffer any injuries and returned home directly from the accident site.
Earlier, a collision took place between two locomotive trains at the THDC hydropower project site in Pipalkoti in Chamoli district on Tuesday night.
As per to Chamoli District Magistrate, the accident took place around 9:30 pm when the two trains collided inside the tunnel. There were 109 people on board at the time.
He said around 60 people were injured in the accident. Of them, 42 were admitted to the district hospital, while 17 were admitted to Vivekananda Hospital in Pipalkoti.
