Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday urged newly recruited youth to become the "foot soldiers" in the state’s ongoing battle against corruption and drug abuse.

Addressing a ceremony where appointment letters were distributed to 450 youth across various departments, CM Mann said these young recruits have now become an integral part of the state government adding that it is their bounden duty to contribute wholeheartedly to the fight against drugs and corruption. He emphasised that eliminating these twin challenges is crucial for the welfare of the common people and the progress of the state.

Highlighting the government’s initiatives, the Chief Minister noted the significance of ongoing anti-drug campaigns like Yudh Nasheyan De Virudh and called for collective participation to ensure their success.

“Your role is not just limited to service in the departments; you are also the guardians of Punjab’s future. Stand firmly with the government in this mission,” Mann told the recruits.

Mann announced that the state government has provided 54,142 government jobs over the past three years through a transparent and merit-based recruitment process. Departments receiving new appointments include Housing, Agriculture, Water Resources, Sports and Youth Services, Local Government, Health and Family Welfare, School Education, Water Supply and Sanitation, and Excise and Taxation.

CM Mann expressed satisfaction that nearly 55,000 youth have been recruited solely on the basis of merit. He said this strategy is aimed at curbing youth migration and creating meaningful opportunities within the state to retain talent.

“It is heartening to see that many young people, who once aspired to move abroad, are now preparing for competitive exams to serve their state,” he added.

The Chief Minister reiterated that every selection was made fairly and transparently, based on performance in competitive examinations.
