Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has greenlit a massive infrastructure push, approving a ₹4,000-crore project to construct 20,000 kilometres of link roads across the state. The initiative is aimed at improving rural connectivity, streamlining the transportation of goods and services, and driving economic growth in Punjab’s villages.

Speaking about the project, CM Mann highlighted the deteriorated condition of many rural link roads, pointing out that most have been neglected for more than six years—well beyond their intended lifespan. He stressed the urgent need to rebuild these critical arteries to support agriculture and rural livelihoods.

The link roads will be prioritised based on their strategic importance, categorized as "top priority," "priority," and "needy" roads. To ensure fair and effective implementation, the government will carry out an extensive on-ground survey to identify the areas that require immediate intervention.

CM Mann directed the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Punjab Mandi Board to oversee the project with strict financial discipline, ensuring that every rupee is spent wisely. Contractors will also be held accountable for road maintenance for a period of five years post-construction.

To guarantee high-quality outcomes, the project will incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology for need-based construction planning. This will help ensure the best use of resources while delivering durable, well-constructed roads.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the initiative is not just about infrastructure, but a step toward holistic rural development. By enhancing accessibility and mobility, the project is expected to uplift the rural economy and improve the overall quality of life for Punjab’s farming and village communities.
