Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday launched a sharp attack on traditional political parties, accusing them of using Scheduled Castes (SC) communities as mere vote banks while ignoring their welfare. Addressing a public gathering, Mann alleged that these parties have historically neglected the needs of economically weaker and underprivileged sections of society.
He pointed to the misuse of funds meant for the post matric scholarship scheme for SC students, stating that those responsible are now "facing divine retribution" and suffering from health issues. “The money meant for poor students is now being spent on their treatment,” Mann remarked.
The Chief Minister criticised previous state leaders for building lavish properties while remaining inaccessible to the public. He further said these leaders had built huge palaces by amassing whopping wealth by misusing their official positions. He said the walls of these palatial palaces were high and the gates usually remained closed for the people.
Mann accused these leaders of taking turns in power every five years to exploit public resources. “People have seen through their lies and propaganda and have rightly rejected them,” he said.
Bhagwant Singh Mann said that these haughty politicians had always taken the people of state for granted due to which they were ultimately shown the door by people. The Chief Minister said that the convent educated leaders of the previous governments had never bothered to improve the level of education in the state.
He said that the sole reason was that their own kids used to study in big private schools at hills whereas only the children of common man studied in the government schools.
On the contrary , Bahgwant Singh Mann said that his government has been focusing on ensuring that the lives of the common man can be transformed by providing quality education to them.
