In a move that could significantly raise Hyderabad’s profile on the world stage, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has proposed turning the city into a regular mid-year hub for the World Economic Forum (WEF). Speaking at a "Join The Rise" event in Davos on Wednesday, Reddy suggested that waiting a full year for follow-ups in today's fast-paced business world is too long. He invited the WEF to host a secondary forum in Hyderabad every July or August to keep the momentum going.
According to state government's press release, the proposal received a warm reception from the global business leaders, policymakers in attendance. Reddy pointed out that Telangana is no longer just looking for signatures on a page; following the success of the recent Telangana Rising Global Summit — which brought in over ₹5.75 lakh crore in investment commitments — the state is now focused on executing its long-term vision.
The Davos session was a busy one for the Telangana team. Alongside Ministers D. Sridhar Babu and Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, the CM launched two major initiatives: the Telangana AI Innovation Hub (TAIH) and the Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy for 2026-2030. The delegation also pitched Hyderabad as the ultimate "China Plus One" alternative, highlighting its growth as a global center for Capability Centers (GCCs) and its massive infrastructure projects like the Musi river rejuvenation and Metro expansion.
One of the biggest talking points was the "Bharat Future City." Reddy described the project as a 30,000-acre smart city on the outskirts of Hyderabad, designed with 50 per cent green cover to compete with the best urban centers in the world. The evening event even had a touch of star power, with Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi joining the delegation as a special guest.
The trip is already paying off in tangible terms. By the end of the second day in Davos, the state had secured fresh investment commitments worth at least ₹11,500 crore. If Reddy gets his way and the WEF agrees to a July session in Hyderabad, it would mark a massive shift in how the state interacts with global capital.
