Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday flagged off 20 trucks carrying relief material for flood-hit Punjab from Kurukshetra district.
The trucks, sent to different districts, carried pulses, rice, water, juice, pickles, medical kits, mosquito nets, tarpaulins, green fodder for animals, bran, and other essential items.
Saini said the people of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir had been badly affected by floods. With the support of Haryana’s residents, social organisations, and other groups, relief material was being sent to these states.
He added that the Haryana government had already given Rs 5 crore each to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir as immediate help. From the Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced Rs 3,100 crore in aid, Rs 1,600 crore for Punjab and Rs 1,500 crore for Himachal Pradesh.
The CM said compensation was also being given to affected residents and farmers in Haryana’s water-logged areas. An e-Kshatipurti portal has been opened for applications. So far, 3,24,583 farmers from 5,786 villages have reported crop damage over 19,22,617 acres.
He further said in cases where lives had been lost due to floods, Rs 4 lakh was being provided immediately to the families. Compensation has also been fixed for other types of losses.
Saini noted that over the past 10 years, Haryana’s farmers have received Rs 15,500 crore as crop damage compensation. He also appealed to all state government officials and employees to voluntarily contribute to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support flood victims.
