Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday inaugurated a state-of-the-art district jail complex in Fideri village of Rewari, constructed at a cost of ₹95 crore. Spread across 50 acres, the facility can accommodate up to 1,000 inmates and is equipped with modern infrastructure aimed at facilitating reform and rehabilitation.
Speaking at the event, CM Saini said the government is committed to providing prisoners with skill development, educational and psychological support to help reintegrate them into mainstream society. “Efforts are being made to ensure inmates live a respectable life post-release,” he said.
The jail complex includes 11 barracks, two security wards, an industrial area, a 30-bed hospital, a control room, canteen, warehouse, administrative offices, and housing for staff. Additionally, 74 houses, a warder hostel, a shopping complex, park, and community centre have been developed.
The Chief Minister highlighted that 335 video conferencing systems have been installed in jails across the state to facilitate virtual court appearances. “Every aspect of prison management — from entry to release, living conditions, medical care, and canteen facilities — is being digitised,” he added.
Haryana currently has three central jails and 17 district jails with a combined capacity of 22,647 inmates. Jail radio stations are operating in central jails in Ambala and Hisar, and in district jails across several cities, including Faridabad, Panipat, Gurugram, Karnal, Jhajjar, Rohtak, Yamunanagar, and Kurukshetra. A high-security prison in Rohtak is nearing completion.
During his visit, the Chief Minister also inaugurated eight development projects worth ₹193.94 crore and laid the foundation stone for seven more projects valued at ₹94.37 crore.
At a public rally in Rewari, Saini announced a plan to tackle the issue of industrial wastewater entering the Masani Barrage. He said sewage treatment plants will be installed to purify water before it is discharged, making it fit for agricultural use.
Lauding Rewari as the "land of brave soldiers," Saini said the youth of this region serve the country at the borders, ensuring the safety of citizens. He reaffirmed the BJP's manifesto promise to establish India’s largest mustard oil cooperative mill and a military museum in the district. “What we promise, we deliver — Saaf Niti, Sahi Niyat, aur Sashakt Netritva (Our policy is clear, intent is right and leadership is strong),” he declared.
Also present at the rally, Union Minister of State and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh emphasised Rewari’s potential as an emerging employment hub. Drawing parallels with Gurugram’s transformation into an economic powerhouse, he called for similar development in Rewari through strategic investments and infrastructure.
