Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday issued a stern warning to the police, signalling a zero-tolerance approach to rising crime in the state. He said police officers would face strict action, including demotion, if they fail to control crime in their areas.

Talking to the mediapersons after a pre-Budget consultation meeting, Saini said accountability would now be fixed at the grassroots level. He made it clear that police officers posted in areas where crime remains unchecked will be held directly responsible.

The Chief Minister directed Superintendents of Police and Station House Officers to closely monitor law and order in their jurisdictions. He said officers must seriously introspect if incidents of crime or drug trafficking increase in their areas.

Saini said transfers alone would not be enough in cases of negligence. The government, he added, is ready to take harsher steps, including demotions, against officers who show laxity in their duties.

He also stressed the need for swift action on complaints, especially those involving women and vulnerable sections. Any delay or inaction, he said, would not be tolerated.

Saini said maintaining public safety and eliminating the drug menace remain the government’s top priorities. He directed officers to carry out regular reviews to identify and address the root causes of crime, rather than relying on temporary measures.

The Chief Minister also ordered an intensification of anti-drug campaigns across the state to ensure a safer environment and better governance.
