Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met the President of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) UK, Kamal Dhaliwal, Vice President Gurminder Randhawa, and their team in London last evening.
Sukhu shared details of various initiatives started by his government in health, education, tourism, and environmental conservation, according to an official release. He said because of the government’s focused efforts, Himachal Pradesh has improved its rank in quality education, moving from 21st place to fifth.
He also highlighted that the people of the state are facing the impact of climate change and explained the steps being taken to reduce its effects. He added that the government is giving all possible help to families affected by disasters, using its own resources.
Kamal Dhaliwal, President of IOC UK, praised the state government’s vision, calling it a model of sustainable growth and prosperity for other states to follow.
MLA Dehra and the Chief Minister’s wife, Kamlesh Thakur, were present on the occasion along with IOC UK General Secretary Vikram Duhan, Sandeep Soni, Mohammed Khaleelullah, Yash Solanki, Rupinder Gill, and Pammi Cheema.
Meanwhile, CM Sukhu created history by becoming the first Chief Minister in the country to address the House of Lords in London. He delivered a keynote speech at a summit hosted by the Indo-European Business Forum.
In his speech, the Chief Minister invited global investors to explore opportunities in clean energy, responsible tourism, horticulture, IT, and wellness sectors in Himachal Pradesh. He also spoke about the state’s 100 per cent literacy rate, strong sense of trust, and resilience, which make it an attractive destination for investment.
According to the release, the Chief Minister stressed that Himachal Pradesh is not just a tourist destination throughout the year but has also emerged as a hub for global business opportunities. He repeated that his government is working to build a self-reliant Himachal Pradesh under the vision of “Vyavastha Parivartan se Aatmanirbhar Himachal” (Self-Reliant through Systemic Reforms).
He added that this is not just a slogan but a vision shared with the people of the state, guiding every step his government takes.
