Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu visited Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla to check on the health of former legislator Bambar Thakur, who sustained gunshot injuries in Bilaspur on Friday.
The Chief Minister wished him a speedy recovery and assured that he was receiving the best possible medical care. Doctors attending to Thakur confirmed that he was out of danger.
Speaking informally to the media, Sukhu called the incident a serious matter and stated that the police had been directed to take swift action against those responsible. Overnight raids were conducted, leading to the arrest of several suspects linked to the attack. He assured that strict action would be taken against the culprits.
Addressing another issue, Sukhu stated that while protests were a democratic right of the Opposition, they should also cooperate with the government. He raised concerns about how the drug mafia was allowed to expand in the state and credited his government’s efforts for a 30 percent decline in drug-related cases.
He mentioned that in a recent meeting, he had ordered a crackdown on drug networks and organized crime. To strengthen these efforts, the state government plans to introduce new Bills in the ongoing budget session of the Vidhan Sabha to enforce stricter measures.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, and MLA Harish Janartha during his visit.
