CM urges Panchayats to lead fight against drug abuse

He called upon the elected representatives in Panchayats to play an active role in the campaign against drug abuse and work towards creating chitta-free panchayats and a drug-free society.

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu attended the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected Panchayat Pradhans and Up-Pradhans here on Monday and administered the anti-chitta pledge to them.

 

He called upon the elected representatives in Panchayats to play an active role in the campaign against drug abuse and work towards creating chitta-free panchayats and a drug-free society.

 

He congratulated the newly elected representatives and said that Panchayats serve as a vital link between the government and the people. He expressed hope that they would work with dedication to promote development, public welfare, and ensure the effective delivery of government schemes and services at the grassroots level.

 

The Chief Minister urged Panchayat representatives to encourage sports, education, cultural activities, and other constructive initiatives within their communities to steer youth away from the menace of drugs and channel their energy towards positive pursuits.

 

Sukhu said the state government had launched several ambitious initiatives and welfare programmes aimed at the holistic development and well-being of all sections of society, which were already showing encouraging results. He said the government had adopted a visionary approach to strengthen the rural economy and advance key sectors such as Green Himachal, quality education, healthcare, employment generation, financial management, drug de-addiction, and employee welfare, among others.

 

Education Minister Rohit Thakur administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected Panchayat Pradhans and Up-Pradhans of the district.
Chairman of the 7th State Finance Commission Nand Lal, MLAs Kuldeep Singh Rathore, Mohan Lal Brakta and Harish Janartha, Chairperson, State Women Commission Vidya Negi, Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister (Information Technology and Innovation) Gokul Butail, Chairman Himfed Maheshwar Singh Chauhan, Chairman APMC Devanand Verma, Chairman Himcon Vikesh Chauhan, Chairperson State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Anita Thakur, Vice-Chairman State Drug Abuse Prevention Board Sanjay Bhardwaj, DC Anupam Kashyap, SP Gaurav Singh and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
