Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday flagged off the 'Run for Cooperation Marathon' in Lucknow. The marathon was launched as part of the International Co-operative Year 2025. Taking to social media platform X, the CM wrote in a post: "The 'Run For Cooperation' marathon was launched today in Lucknow as part of the International Cooperative Year-2025."
A UN initiative, the International Year of Cooperatives, seeks to celebrate the "enduring global impact cooperatives have everywhere." With the announcement, Uttar Pradesh became the first state in the country to launch this initiative, an official statement said.
On this occasion, warehouses with a 15,000 metric tonne capacity in Manjhanpur, Kaushambi district, and a 5,000 metric tonne capacity in Hariharpur, Sultanpur, built under the Private Entrepreneur Guarantee (PEG) scheme, were also inaugurated.
He released tricolour balloons to signify the beginning of the cooperative year as he flagged off the "Run for Cooperation" marathon. According to the statement, Adityanath said that approximately 2.5 to 3 crore people took a holy dip at the Sangam in Prayagraj on January 26, Republic Day, calling the gathering an event wholly driven by a spirit of cooperation.
"This entire operation is running on auto mode based on mutual participation, showcasing the largest example of cooperation," he said.
"'Sahkarita' (Cooperation) is a transformed version of 'sahkar.' To build a self-reliant India, cooperation must become an integral part of our lives," the Chief Minister added, according to the statement. For the first time, a Ministry of Cooperative has been established, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, to include farmers, women, and youth in this national campaign, he said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the state’s initiative to establish model shops in every village, transforming traditional fair-price shops into multi-purpose outlets selling daily-use items.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister unfurled the national flag in Lucknow on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day and paid tribute to India's Constitution and the freedom fighters who shaped the nation. Adityanath highlighted the significance of January 26, 1950, when India implemented its Constitution, marking the beginning of its journey as a sovereign democratic republic.
"On this day in 1950, India implemented its Constitution in which it was decided to start its new journey as a sovereign democratic republic of India. After a long struggle, this country became independent on 15 August 1947. Many freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, BR Ambedkar, and Rajendra Prasad gave freedom to the country... Today, on this occasion, when we are completing 75 years of the implementation of the Constitution of India..."
The CM saluted the great sons of the country and said that the Constitution of India was the greatest guide to delivering the message of justice to every citizen of India.
