A Sub-Inspector of the CoBRA battalion was grievously injured today in an IED blast triggered by CPI (Maoist) rebels in the Baliba forest of the Jaraikela area in West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand.
The injured Sub-Inspector, Jitendra Dani of the CoBRA 209 Battalion, CRPF, was immediately airlifted to Ranchi for treatment. According to officials, his condition is stable.
Security forces had received intelligence that top leaders of the CPI (Maoist) organization—Misir Besra, Anal, Anmol, Ashwin, Pintu Lohara, Chandan Lohara, and Amit Hansda—were camping in the Saranda jungles of the Kolhan area with their squad members.
Acting on this information, a joint operation was launched by the CRPF, CoBRA, and the District Police Force in the border forest area of Chhotanagra and Jaraikela police station areas on Wednesday.
During the operation, at around 07:30 a.m. on Thursday, an IED planted by the Naxalites in the forest area around Vangram Baliba of Chotanagra police station area exploded, targeting the security forces.
The Sub-Inspector sustained an injury to the heel of his left leg. Doctors have stated that he is out of danger.
Ranchi Zone Inspector General Akhilesh Jha visited the hospital to check on Jitendra Dani, inquiring about his health and discussing treatment options with the doctors.
He also gave instructions to ensure the soldier receives the best possible care.
The Saranda forest area in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand is a known hotbed of Maoist activities, where security forces are continuously conducting search operations.
