Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath's assault case.

Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath has written to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav seeking a thorough probe into the alleged assault on him and his son by police personnel in Patiala last year, claiming there were attempts by local officials to cover up the incident.

In his letter to the DGP on Monday, Colonel Bath sought the suspension of the officers involved until the trial is completed, expressing concerns about the safety of his family. He has also marked a copy of the letter to Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi.

In the letter sent to the DGP on Monday, Colonel Bath demanded that the officers involved be suspended until the trial is completed, citing concerns about the safety of his family. He also sent a copy of the letter to Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi.

Bath said the police personnel who assaulted him took away his military identity card and mobile phone and later created a false witness to shield themselves. He said the “trail of lies” claiming that the items were found by someone and handed over to the police must be exposed.

He also alleged that the police officers submitted false reports to the court and to their department. Bath demanded that an investigation be conducted into the issue and said strict action should be taken if the reports are found to be fabricated.

Colonel Bath also sought a departmental investigation against the officers involved, including senior officials. He urged authorities to ensure fairness and transparency in the investigation so that the accused officials cannot influence the judicial process.

A Punjab Police spokesperson said that an FIR in the case was registered on March 22, 2025, at the Civil Lines police station in Patiala. The investigation in the matter was later transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

According to the spokesperson, under Punjab Police rules, the Senior Superintendent of Police is authorised to take disciplinary action against inspectors and lower-rank personnel. Four inspectors and Constable Jai Singh have been penalised with permanent forfeiture of three years of service and transferred out of the Patiala range.

In December, the CBI filed a chargesheet in a special court in Mohali against four inspectors — Harjinder Singh Dhillon, Shaminder Singh, Harry Boparai and Ronnie Singh — under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
