As the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) secured a decisive victory in the Kerala Assembly elections, party president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday said the mandate marks the beginning of ‘real welfare’ and genuine economic empowerment in the state.

In a statement, Kharge thanked voters for electing the Congress-led UDF government and said the party was committed to restoring what he described as the ‘lost glory’ of Kerala through people-centric governance.

“True welfare and real economic empowerment begins in Keralam now,” Kharge said in a post on X. He added that the Congress deeply appreciates the trust placed in the party and its allies by the electorate across the state.

On behalf of the Congress, he extended gratitude to every voter in Kerala for supporting the UDF and helping deliver what he called a clear, decisive mandate. He also acknowledged the efforts of party leaders, grassroots workers and alliance partners, crediting their ‘relentless hard work and dedication’ for the electoral outcome.

Kharge said the victory reflects public endorsement of the UDF’s development-oriented and welfare-driven governance model. “We remain firmly committed to restoring the lost glory of Keralam and strengthening the UDF’s people-centric approach to governance,” he said.

According to trends from the counting process, the Congress-led UDF is set to form the government in Kerala, securing around 100 seats as counting neared completion. The result marks a significant political shift in the state and a strong comeback for the alliance.

Party leaders described the outcome as a reaffirmation of voter confidence in the UDF’s promises on social welfare, employment generation, and inclusive development, while also signalling a clear rejection of rival political narratives.

Kharge’s remarks come as Congress leaders across the country welcomed the result, calling it a validation of the party’s grassroots mobilisation and alliance unity in one of India’s most politically significant southern states.
