Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday that the Congress party has never sought support for their campaign, demanding statehood restoration to Jammu and Kashmir.
During his interaction with reporters in Safapora, Ganderbal, the CM said that they come across such statements through media reports only. Hinting that they haven’t been kept in the loop, while Congress launched a statehood campaign last month.
Omar said, “They (Congress) didn’t even raise the issue during the INDIA Bloc meeting recently, so that deliberation and more planning could have been done before the launch of the campaign. We are the ones who raised this demand with the central government, even when we were not in power in Jammu and Kashmir. We brought the resolution in this regard. If the Congress needs our support, let them talk to us; we will offer them support.”
Several Congress leaders were detained by the police in Jammu on July 20 following their demonstrations and March demanding the early restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
While responding to a query about Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation, he said he was surprised by the decision, as a resignation of this sort in this manner has happened for the first time.
CM visited the residence of the woman who was raped and murdered in Safapora last week. “The police have already registered a case in this regard and an investigation is going on. The government will provide every possible assistance to the victim’s family,” he added.
