Pressure is mounting on Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to issue an unconditional apology to Telangana for his controversial "evil eye" remarks. What began with a demand from former Minister and senior Bharat Rashtra Samiti MLA G Jagadish Reddy has now seen a chorus of demands from Congress leaders and Ministers.
Jagadish Reddy was among the first to object to the comments made by the actor-turned-politician, stating it was unfortunate that individuals with limited knowledge were ascending to the post of Deputy Chief Minister.
Following this, Congress MLA from Jadcherla, J Anirudh Reddy, raised similar objections. By Tuesday, Congress Ministers began demanding that the Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister immediately tender an apology to Telangana.
Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy went further, issuing a stark warning that Pawan Kalyan’s movies would not be permitted for screening in Telangana unless he apologised to the people of the state.
BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to respond to his Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks.
“It is inappropriate to make comments that could trigger differences between the two Telugu States. Pawan Kalyan should immediately withdraw his comments and apologise to Telangana,” Prabhakar said.
Separately, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud also condemned the Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks.
