Principal Media Advisor to the Himachal Chief Minister, Naresh Chauhan, on Friday said the Congress party’s decision to nominate a grassroots worker as its Rajya Sabha candidate was a significant step towards strengthening the organisation.
He said that by giving an ordinary party worker the opportunity to reach the Rajya Sabha, the leadership had sent a clear message that dedication, honesty and commitment to the organisation are recognised and rewarded.
Chauhan said the decision to select a Rajya Sabha candidate rests entirely with the party leadership and the Congress has acted in line with its tradition. He said the nomination of Anurag Sharma, a District Congress Committee president from Kangra, shows that workers contributing at the grassroots level can also reach the highest platforms in the party.
Chauhan added that the decision reflects the vision of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has consistently emphasised strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level.
On Panchayat elections, he said that with the Disaster Act now withdrawn, the process can move forward. The government aims to complete Panchayat elections in the state by May, with the formation of new panchayats and delimitation nearly complete.
