Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Saturday accused the Congress government in the state of attempting "to defame the BJP and the Centre" by staging a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on August 6 over the issue of Backward Class quota bills. Speaking at a protest rally organised by the BJP OBC Morcha here against the alleged Congress betrayal of backward classes, Rao alleged that the ruling party had promised 42 per cent reservation to BCs but was now giving 10 per cent of it to Muslims in the name of BC quotas.
"The BJP is against 10 per cent reservation for Muslims. If you really feel for BCs, you must scrap that 10 per cent quota for Muslims," he asserted.
Rao said it is the task of the Congress government to carry out the two bills approved by the state assembly in March this year, which grant 42 per cent reservation to BCs in local bodies, education, and employment.
"You brought the bills. You implement them. How can you fault us, Revanth Reddy ji?" he asked the chief minister.

Citing Article 243(D) of the Constitution, Rao asserted that state governments are empowered to deal with issues regarding local body polls.
"When you possess the constitutional right, how is it possible for you to abdicate your responsibility and blame the Centre for your shortcomings?" he accused.
The drama of the Congress protest at Jantar Mantar is nothing but political theatre, Rao asserted.
"Your leader Rahul Gandhi is not even granting you an appointment when you visit Delhi. This will be your 50th trip to the capital since assuming office. Since not being granted an audience, you are doing a drama at Jantar Mantar," he asserted.
Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud had earlier announced that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, ministers, and senior party leaders will organise a dharna at Jantar Mantar on August 6 in order to ask for Presidential assent for BC quota bills that have been passed by the state legislature.
