A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party from the state of Punjab, Fatehjung Singh Bajwa, has launched a jibe against the Congress party on account of the internal squabbles reported within the Congress ranks. In his opinion, considering the present situation in the state of Punjab, the Congress will not be able to contest any elections next year.
As per reports, Bajwa, who used to be in Congress, said that the party does not have any kind of threat from outside political rivals since its members themselves fight amongst each other. He went on to say that the criticism against the party was not only coming from outside but inside the party as well, with the people saying that Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has made compromises with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The comments come amidst reports of deep divisions within the Punjab Congress after the party leadership decided to retain Warring as the state unit president, a move that disappointed supporters of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who had been pushing for his appointment to the top post. Senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also fuelled the discussion by noting that whilst unity is vital for the upcoming elections, the party cannot afford to have compromised leaders within its ranks.
However, AICC general secretary in charge of Punjab, Bhupesh Baghel, downplayed the reports, insisting there is no resentment or factionalism within the state unit. Speaking in Raipur, Baghel explained that he had spent the last six days holding meetings with various committees and senior leaders to prepare for the 2027 elections. He maintained that the discussions were focused on gathering suggestions based on the leaders' experiences and that all workers and leaders are united in wanting to take up responsibilities for the upcoming electoral battle.
