A minor argument over honking escalated into a violent attack in Ludhiana's Ranjit Singh Park area near Shingar Cinema late Monday night, leaving the son of a local Congress leader seriously injured.

The victim, Karan Sharma, son of a Congress leader and a hosiery businessman, was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon after asking another driver to move his vehicle while returning home.

According to the police, the incident occurred when the prime accused, identified as Sukhvinder Singh, was reversing his car in a narrow lane. Karan reportedly honked to request passage. The accused allegedly took offence and, along with two associates, assaulted him with a sword.

In an attempt to protect himself, Karan raised his hands, suffering severe injuries to both. One of his hands was nearly severed in the attack.

He was rushed to Christian Medical College (CMC) Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery. Hospital sources said he received more than 100 stitches on his injured hand and remains under medical care.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused. The motive behind the attack is being investigated, though preliminary findings suggest it stemmed from a dispute over honking.
