The J&K Congress Unit has decided to revamp the party at the grassroots level by holding mass contact programs in every assembly constituency throughout 2025.
According to party sources, the decision was made after a day-long meeting between the top party leadership in J&K, including AICC Incharge JK Affairs Bharat Singh Solanki, JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra, and AICC General Secretary G A Mir, a party spokesman said.
He also noted that discussions were held on the assembly elections held last year, organisational structure, and measures to strengthen and revamp the party in the Union Territory.
During the assembly polls, the National Conference-Congress alliance won the elections, but Congress performed poorly, managing to win only six seats—five in Kashmir and one in Jammu—out of a total of 32 it contested.
The current political situation and year-long organisational activities were discussed in detail, the spokesman said.
Solanki stated that Congress had declared 2025 the “year of the organisation,” with a special focus on rebuilding the organisation and strengthening the party structure at all levels.
He said, “The party could not perform as per expectations, but together in alliance (with the National Conference), we could checkmate the BJP's attempts to create a hung assembly and come to power through divisions and manipulations.”
“The victory of ‘our mission to keep BJP out of power, as its ideology is a threat to the basic idea of India—unity in diversity.’ Congress has always played a vital role in J&K because of its secular ideology,” he added.
“Congress has contributed significantly to J&K... The UPA government under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh introduced several initiatives in power, railway and road connectivity, job creation, health, education, skill development, and relief and rehabilitation programs,” he claimed.
Solanki further stated that the projects inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi were initiated by the UPA government but were not carried forward with the same speed, with several pending.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader G.A. Mir emphasised that Congress remains second to none, with a rich history, legacy, and strong ideology suited for this diverse nation.
He urged cadres to prepare for a “bigger fight to achieve the larger goal ahead.”
