Congress leaders in Chandigarh demand SEBI chief Madhabi Buch's resignation and a JPC probe into the Adani issue during a protest on Thursday.

The Congress units of Haryana and Punjab staged protests in Chandigarh on Thursday, demanding the resignation of SEBI chairperson Madhabi Buch and the formation of a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) to investigate allegations against the Adani Group.

These protests, held in response to the Congress' nationwide call for action, come in the wake of fresh allegations by Hindenburg Research.

The US-based firm has claimed that Buch and her husband have financial stakes in obscure offshore funds linked to the alleged Adani money-laundering scandal.

The Congress has intensified its attack on the government, seeking accountability and transparency.

In Chandigarh, Haryana Congress leaders, led by state party chief Udai Bhan, gathered near their sector 9 office. The protest was also attended by Ambala MP Varun Chaudhary and Hisar MP Jai Prakash.

The protesters attempted to march towards the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office but were stopped by police barricades.

Simultaneously, the Punjab Congress, led by state president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, held its protest.

The Punjab unit's demonstrators tried to march towards the Punjab Governor’s residence and the ED office, only to be halted by the police.

Barricades were erected outside the Punjab Congress headquarters, where the protesters, undeterred, voiced their demands for an impartial probe into the Hindenburg allegations.

Warring reiterated the Congress' demand for Buch's resignation, the initiation of a thorough inquiry, and the constitution of a JPC to probe the Adani issue.

“We demand the SEBI chief’s resignation, a full-fledged investigation, and a joint parliamentary committee to look into the Adani matter,” Warring stated during the protest.

The police detained several Punjab Congress members, including Warring and MLA Barindermeet Singh Pahra, after they attempted to breach the barricades.

Meanwhile, SEBI chief Madhabi Buch and her husband have dismissed the allegations as baseless, asserting that their financial records are transparent and publicly accessible.

The Adani Group, on its part, has condemned Hindenburg Research's allegations as malicious, denying any commercial ties with Buch or her husband.
