A policeman was killed after terrorists opened fire in Anantnag town of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said. The attack took place at around 12.30 pm in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag, they said.
Head Constable Ashiq Hussain, who was deployed for security arrangements related to the Amarnath Yatra, was injured in the firing. He was immediately taken to Government Medical College and Hospital in Anantnag.
However, doctors declared Hussain dead on arrival, officials said.
Following the attack, security forces sealed the area and launched a search operation to locate the attackers, they said.
The Resistance Front, which is believed to be a shadow group of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post.
