In a shocking incident, an unmarried couple living together allegedly killed the woman’s parents and younger sister at their rented apartment in Bengaluru on Monday night before fleeing the scene, police said. The incident took place at Sai Green Homes Apartment in Dominic Layout, Sigehalli. The victims have been identified as Somasunder (52), Muthulakshmi (48), and Supriya (19).
According to the Karnataka Police, the accused — Shwetha and her boyfriend Kenneth — had been living together at the apartment for the past two months despite opposition from her family over their inter-faith relationship.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Shwetha’s parents and younger sister had arrived at the residence on Saturday. On Monday evening, around 7:30 pm, a heated argument broke out between the couple and the visiting family members.
The verbal altercation escalated into a violent attack. Muthulakshmi and Supriya died on the spot, while neighbours rushed Somasunder to a nearby hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries, a police official said.
Following the incident, the accused fled the apartment. A murder case has been registered at KR Puram Police Station, and a manhunt has been launched to trace the couple.
Veer Bahadur, a security guard at the apartment complex, said that Shwetha had introduced her parents and sister when they first arrived. “Her father had briefly returned to their village but came back on Monday evening. As usual, Shwetha went out for her evening walk and returned home. The incident must have occurred after that,” he said.
Bahadur added that he became aware of the murders around 9 pm.
Police are continuing their investigation and are working to locate the accused while examining all possible angles in the case.
