The Municipal Commissioner’s court has directed the Himachal Pradesh Waqf Board and the Sanjauli Mosque Committee to demolish the remaining two illegal floors of the Sanjauli mosque, citing violations of building regulations and failure to submit revenue records.
The ruling came after the Waqf Board was unable to provide the mosque’s land and revenue documentation during the hearing. The court had earlier, on October 5, ordered the demolition of the top three floors of the five-storey structure and asked the Waqf board and the Sanjauli Mosque Committee to submit documents justifying the legality of the remaining two floors.
During the proceedings, the Waqf Board’s counsel argued that the mosque existed 1947 and had been reconstructed after a previous demolition. However, the court questioned why architectural plans and other mandatory permissions were not obtained from the Municipal Corporation for the rebuilding process.
After reviewing the case, the court concluded that the remaining construction was in violation of municipal norms and building codes, and ordered the removal of the illegal structure.
