Court reserves order on Hemant Soren’s bail plea in land scam case

The special PMLA court today reserved its order on the bail application filed by former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in the land scam case. The court in an hour-long hearing heard the arguments of both the parties and reserved its judgement.

The initial hearing on the matter was held on April 23, when the court had asked a few questions from the Enforcement Directorate. The court had given a week to ED to file a reply to its queries.

Notably, former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren has claimed in his petition that his bail is being continuously delayed by the Enforcement Directorate to keep him away from election campaigning.

Hemant has stated that he is currently working as the executive president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, which is an ally of the INDI Alliance. Given the Lok Sabha elections, there is a great need for him to join the election campaign of the party.

It is further stated that if the petitioner is not released immediately to participate in the election campaign, then the Central government under BJP will succeed in its strategy.

Soren was arrested by ED on January 31 in the land scam case. He was sent to judicial custody after 13 days of interrogation by ED. At present Hemant Soren is lodged in Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi.
