Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said that the graph of crime is continuously going up ever since the BJP has come to power. He said the situation today is such that every person in the state feels insecure.

“Crime has become so out of control, it seems that the mafia, and not the government is running the state. Haryana, which was known for prosperity and greenery during the Congress tenure, is now known for hooliganism and bullets,” he said.

Addressing a press conference, Hooda said in the Social Progress Index (SPI) report of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council itself, Haryana has been described as the most insecure state in the country.

“The NCRB report also states the same. Within a year, 1,020 murders took place in the state, that is, three murders every day. During this period, 1,786 rape cases were reported in Haryana, or 4-5 rapes took place every day,” he stated.

“If we talk about crimes against women, 16,743 cases came to light within a year, or 46 cases were registered every day. With a crime rate of 118.7, Haryana ranks first in the country. In 2014-15, there were annual cases of crime against women, which have almost doubled today, there has been a 100 per cent increase in them. More than 100 incidents of theft, robbery, dacoity, ransom and kidnapping take place every day in the state,” he added.

He said “There is so much fear of ransom, threats and miscreants that this time the contractors did not even bid for half the liquor contracts. The government could not find contractors for 300 vends in 12 districts, because the miscreants had openly threatened the contractors. What is happening in the state today is what the miscreants want,” he said.

Hooda said the situation in Haryana was the same even before 2005, but as soon as the Congress government came to power, a clear warning was given to the miscreants that either quit crime, or leave Haryana. “We did not just say this, but also implemented it. The Congress government had completely wiped-out gangsters, mafia and miscreants from the state,” he stated.

“Therefore, for 10 years, law and order prevailed in the state and due to the safe environment, businessmen invested heavily. That is why Haryana became the number one state in the country on every parameter of employment generation, investment and development. But as soon as the BJP came to power, it ruined the law and order. The reason why today businessmen are leaving Haryana one by one and no one is ready to invest,” he noted.

Hooda also read out the headlines of the last few days and said every day newspapers are filled with crime news, a clear testament to the fact that the BJP government has failed to provide security to the public, he added.
