Punjab Police on Saturday dismantled a cross-border arms smuggling network in Amritsar and apprehended four people. The police recovered 10 sophisticated pistols and several live cartridges from their possession.
As per the preliminary investigation, the accused were working on the instructions of a foreign-based smuggler. They allegedly received illegal consignments of weapons through cross-border routes and supplied them to criminal elements in Punjab, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said in a post on X.
A case has been registered at Chheharta police station in Amritsar. Police said further inquiry is underway to identify other people linked to the network and trace its wider connections.
