Punjab Police on Thursday dismantled a cross-border drug smuggling cartel, leading to the arrest of six persons and the recovery of over 30 kilograms of heroin worth crores of rupees, a police official said.
Officials said the operation was carried out as part of efforts to dismantle cross-border drug syndicates operating in the region.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were linked to a Dubai-based smuggler who was facilitating the supply of heroin consignments from across the border, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said in a post on X.
An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Chheharta police station in Amritsar.
Punjab Police had earlier this year launched the second phase of its war against drugs, targeting gangs and organised criminal syndicates with links across multiple states and international crime networks.
The police force has arrested several drug peddlers, kingpins, gangsters and mafia members in 2026, not only from within the state but also by actively pursuing criminals operating from different countries.
