A CRPF sub-inspector was injured in an IED blast triggered by Naxals at Radha Poda village in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on Tuesday morning. The explosion occurred within the Jeraikela police station limits during an ongoing anti-Naxal operation.
The injured officer, identified as Subodh Kumar of the CRPF’s 134th battalion, received immediate medical attention at a local health center in Jeraikela before being airlifted to a hospital in Ranchi. Authorities confirmed that he is in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
According to West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar, security forces, including the CRPF’s 134th battalion, have been conducting anti-Naxal operations across the Jeraikela region since March 4.
During one such operation, security personnel encountered Maoists, leading to an exchange of fire. As the insurgents retreated, they detonated a pre-planted IED, injuring Kumar.
Meanwhile, security forces uncovered a large cache of explosives and arms in a separate anti-Naxal operation in the forested regions near Kafikucha and Yeshokbeda, under the jurisdiction of Goilkera police station. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, personnel launched a search operation on Tuesday, discovering a Maoist hideout stocked with weapons, explosives, and daily-use supplies.
Among the recovered items were two IEDs, each weighing approximately four kilograms, 20 meters of codex wire, 50 electric chips, one kilogram of splinters, and 40 syringes. Security forces also seized 100 meters of 2mm thick electric wire, 20 meters of 4mm wire, and other essential materials suspected to be used in Maoist activities.
Additionally, an IED mine found during the search was successfully defused, preventing potential attacks and ensuring the safety of local villagers. Authorities have intensified surveillance and combing operations in the region to neutralize any further threats posed by Maoist insurgents.
