Chief Minister Omar Abdullah led government is scheduled to hold crucial J&K Cabinet meeting this evening at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, in which long-awaited Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) report on reservations will be discussed amid rising unrest among general category students.
The Cabinet meet will be chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah this evening at 6 PM in Srinagar.The three members of the Cabinet Sub-Committee Ministers Sakina Itoo, Javed Rana, and Satish Sharma will brief the Cabinet on their recommendations regarding reservations. The panel submitted its report on June 10, following six months of stakeholder consultations, sources said.
They further said the Cabinet will take a call on “what next” with regard to the CSC report, adding that it will be reviewed and a decision taken on whether to implement the recommendations and how to proceed legally.It is important to note that the Omar Abdullah-led government is under pressure over the reservation row, and any decision on the report is expected to be a tough one.
The agenda also includes issues related to Forest Department, new tourism revival proposals besides possible deliberations the report of cabinet sub committee panel on reservation of categories.Sources further said that apart from reservations, the meeting will also focus on tourism promotion and arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra both of which have gained urgency following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Senior bureaucrats and administrative officials besides heads of key departments have been asked to remain available for the meeting.
Pertinently, there are only 5 ministers in the cabinet and three of them were members of the CSC including Health and Medical Education, Education and Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo, PHE, Flood Control and Irrigation Minister Javed Rana and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs Minister Satish Sharma.IN the CSC report these ministers have included viewpoints, suggestions of all stakeholders on the basis of which recommendations have been made during the last over 6 months. It is after a thorough discussion in the cabinet meeting today, the government will draw a roadmap for execution of reservation to various categories.
