The 36-hour curfew restrictions imposed in Cuttack following recent clashes have been relaxed, with local authorities confirming a return to normalcy in the city. Twin City Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh announced the lifting of the curfew after no new notification extending the restrictions was issued.
The curfew, which was imposed from 10 PM on Sunday, concluded as scheduled at 10 AM on Tuesday, October 7. The restrictions had initially been clamped across 13 areas following the disturbances. The Police Commissioner has since appealed to the public to maintain peace and tranquillity.
Separately, the temporary suspension of internet services in Cuttack was extended for a further 24 hours. The Home Department also cited problems over the misuse of digital platforms to spread rumours or incite unrest. The official suspension remained in effect from 7 PM on October 6th till 7 PM on October 7th, covering key areas under the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), the Cuttack Development Authority (CDA), and the 42 Mauza regions.
In view of the festive season and the recent disturbances in Cuttack, the Balasore district administration has taken pre-emptive steps by imposing night restrictions across the Balasore Municipality area starting Monday, October 6.
A notification issued by the Collector & District Magistrate, Balasore, stipulates that all shops and commercial establishments within the Municipality need to be shut by 10 PM until October 21. The order underscored that many shops typically stay open late, creating large crowds and posing a risk of a law-and-order breakdown.
To avert any untoward incidents during the festive period, the Collector has been directed by the Superintendent of Police, Balasore, to make sure that night patrolling is in place and strict enforcement of the early closure order, with exceptions only for emergency services.
Police have started making public announcements through loudspeakers across the town, urging residents to cooperate.
The administration has appealed to citizens to maintain peace and cooperate, thereby issuing a warning that any attempts to violate the curfew or spread misinformation will be met with strict legal action.
