Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal's health deteriorated after delivering an 11-minute speech at the "Kisan Mahapanchayat" in Khanauri on Saturday, according to doctors treating him.
Dallewal experienced dizziness and vomiting due to a sudden drop in blood pressure while being carried back to his tent, the medical team reported.
After hearing about his condition, former DIG Narinder Bhargav, involved in backchannel talks with the farmer leader, rushed to Khanauri. Health department teams were also put on standby, officials said.
Before the event, Dallewal had undergone blood, urine, and ECG tests on Friday evening. Only after his test results showed stable vitals was he taken to the stage in an ambulance around 2 pm.
Dallewal is being housed in a glass cubicle surrounded by over 100 welded tractor-trailers and guarded by about 700 volunteers. This setup was created to prevent a repeat of the November 26 incident when police forcibly removed him from his tent in Khanauri and took him to a hospital in Ludhiana, sources revealed.

Dr. Avtar Singh Dhillon, leading the medical team, expressed concern about Dallewal’s fluctuating blood pressure during his speech. The farmer leader felt unwell as he was escorted back to his tent, with his condition worsening after his address.
On the 40th day of his hunger strike, Dallewal reaffirmed his commitment to continue protesting until the government provided a legal guarantee for a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
“This is a do-or-die battle. I will not end my fast until an Act ensuring MSP for crops is passed. We demand a legal guarantee as recommended by the parliamentary committee on agriculture,” Dallewal told the crowd from a bed inside his makeshift cubicle on the stage.
During his address, he called on farmer organisations from other states to join the fight, emphasizing that the MSP demand was a national issue, not just Punjab’s struggle.
The "Kisan Mahapanchayat," organised by the SKM (Non-political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, was the fourth major farmers' gathering in less than a month, showcasing their determination to press for their demands.
