In a shocking incident from Dehradun, Rajpur Police have registered an FIR against Amit Sehgal after the death of journalist Pankaj Mishra. The case relates to a violent assault after miscreants forcibly entered Mishra’s home in Doon Vihar, Jakhan, late on the night of December 15. Mishra later complained of severe chest pain and died the same night.
Based on a written complaint by Mishra’s brother, police have booked the accused under Sections 103, 304, 333 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
As per the FIR, around 10 pm on December 15, Amit Sehgal and several others reportedly formed a group and forcefully entered the journalist’s house. The accused allegedly abused Mishra and assaulted him violently with the intention to kill. Sehgal punched and kicked him on the chest and abdomen, following which Mishra began bleeding from the mouth.
The complaint also stated that Sehgal took away the mobile phones of Mishra and his wife while leaving the house. Police said that around 3 am on December 16, Mishra became unconscious after experiencing severe pain. He was rushed to Doon Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
An investigation into the case is currently underway, police said.
