“Sorry, Mummy. I am leaving. I have been going through this for the last six months. I cannot tolerate it anymore.” These were among the final words allegedly spoken by Srishti Kandari before her death. The government school teacher was found hanging at her in-laws’ house in Dehradun.

Srishti, who got married in November last year, was found dead on Wednesday. Following the incident, her husband Saurabh Khatri, mother-in-law Parveena Devi and sister-in-law Charu were booked in a dowry death case. Srishti’s husband Saurabh Khatri worked at the Uttarakhand Secretariat.

Before her death, the 30-year-old reportedly recorded a video message for her mother. In the video, she spoke about the difficulties and emotional distress she had allegedly faced after her marriage.

In the video, Srishti can be seen crying as she says she had hoped things would improve with time. However, she claimed that members of her in-laws’ family repeatedly called her “manhoos” and subjected her to constant taunts.

The 56-second video surfaced on social media on Thursday night and quickly drew widespread attention. Police said Srishti allegedly died by suicide at her in-laws’ residence in the Harrawala area of Dehradun on Wednesday.

Family members rushed her to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. In the video, she reportedly said she was unable to cope with the emotional pressure and mental stress she had been facing for several months.

Police have registered a case at Doiwala police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on a complaint filed by her mother, Seema Kandari.

Srishti was working as a teacher in a government school in Tehri district at the time of her death.

In her complaint, Seema alleged that her daughter had faced continuous mental and physical harassment after marriage over dowry-related demands and other family disputes.

She further claimed that Srishti was regularly insulted and humiliated by her in-laws, who allegedly referred to her as “manhoos” on a daily basis.

According to the complaint, the family also blamed Srishti for the recent death of her father-in-law and held her responsible for misfortunes that allegedly occurred after her marriage.

Seema Kandari has accused her daughter's husband and in-laws of being responsible for her death and has demanded their immediate arrest.
