Delhi Assembly to discuss 'air pollution' during Winter session

The government has said that an open discussion will also be held on pollution-related shortcomings and future action plans. All parties will be given an opportunity to present their views.

 Delhi Cabinet meeting on Tuesday approved holding the Winter Session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly from January 5 to January 8, 2026. Besides other business on agenda, the brief session will see discussion in the House on air pollution, crisis around which has magnified over the last couple of months.

 

After the meeting Cabinet ministers Kapil Mishra and Ashish Sood held a press conference at the Secretariat , stated that the Winter Session of the Assembly will be held for four days, starting January 5. He added that along with other important proposals to be brought forward by the government during the session, a detailed and open discussion will be held on the issue of pollution.

 

Mishra said the government itself will bring forward a proposal on environment and pollution, in which, the situation over the past 20 years will be presented in the House, along with scientific reports on Delhi's pollution. An open discussion will also be held on pollution-related shortcomings and future action plans. All parties will be given an opportunity to present their views, he said.

 

Giving details he said that the Council of Ministers has decided to hold a special discussion on pollution during the session. He said the government would place before the House a detailed account of the current pollution situation in the capital, the reasons behind it, and the steps taken so far to control it.

 

“Pollution will be discussed in the Assembly. Its causes, solutions and the present situation will be examined in detail,” Mishra said while addressing a press conference.He added that the government would also review actions taken on affidavits submitted by previous governments in the Supreme Court, along with findings from scientific reports. A comprehensive review of pollution-related developments over the past 20 years will also be presented.

 

The minister urged the opposition to come prepared for the debate. “I request the opposition to bring reports of the work they did to control pollution during their tenure,” he said.
