The bail plea of Gaganpreet Kaur, accused in the BMW accident at Dhaula Kuan that claimed the life of Finance Ministry Deputy Secretary Navjot Singh, was deferred on Saturday after Delhi Police sought more time to argue the matter.
The Patiala House Court adjourned the hearing until September 24, after Special Public Prosecutor Atul Shrivastava requested additional time. Judicial Magistrate First Class Ankit Garg allowed the adjournment at the prosecutor’s request, noting that the victim was yet to be examined and CCTV footage needed to be shown to him.
Police informed the court that CCTV footage had been seized from cameras installed near pillars 65 and 67. They further submitted that the mobile phone and driving licence of the accused were yet to be recovered. Defence counsel countered that the mobile phone was with Kaur’s husband and assured the court that it would be handed over by the evening.
Advocate Pradeep Rana, appearing for Kaur along with Abhishek Rana, pressed the court for clarity on whether the preserved CCTV footage specifically covered the accident, not merely the surrounding location. The counsel stressed that he only wanted confirmation from the prosecuting agency on this point.

The court, however, reiterated its earlier stand, refusing to compel the agency to verify the “veracity and contents of the evidence as collected by them”. It recalled that orders for preservation of CCTV footage had already been passed, and clarification had been sought from the Station House Officer of Delhi Cantt police station on whether the seized footage contained recordings from the relevant cameras.
Three other applications, including those seeking preservation of call detail records of a witness and the accused, were also taken up. Notices were issued to Delhi Police and the matter was listed for hearing on the next date.
The bail application of Gaganpreet Kaur, central to the case that has drawn widespread attention, thus remains pending as investigators continue their probe into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
